2024 Margin Protection

While contract changes for spring crops do not begin until February of 2024, Margin Protection contracts for these crops must be in place by September 30, 2023, to be in effect for the 2024 crop year.

The inputs that are subject to fluctuation and may assist in triggering a claim are tracked on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange during the discovery periods for projection and harvest. Calculation for claims is not based on your personal experience in purchasing inputs through the dealer of your choice.

Allowable inputs that are subject to fluctuation for this program are:

For Corn: Diesel, Loan Interest, DAP, Urea and Potash

For Soybeans: Diesel, Loan Interest, Dap and Potash

Losses occur when a county experiences a reduction in yield, a reduction in commodity price, an increase in the listed inputs, or any combination of these factors.

Why Margin Protection?

Margin Protection can be expensive, but it can also be set up in a way to offer more coverage while still being affordable.

If you’d like to speak with an agent about this new program in more detail or obtain pricing and information on what your county’s coverages and premiums are, please reach out to our office.
